Wollastonite

Physical Information

Wollastonite is a calcium silicate mineral. It usually forms where limestone is heated by hot magma and reacts with silica. It is typically white, cream or pale grey. Its crystals are often long and fibrous or blade-like, and they can grow in radiating sprays with a silky or pearly shine.

Wollastonite is important in industry, for example in ceramics. For crystal lovers, it is mainly a collector's mineral, prized for its fine, fibrous texture. It is fairly soft (about 4.5–5 on the Mohs scale), and fibrous pieces can be fragile. Handle it gently and keep it dry and dust-free.

Metaphysical Properties

Wollastonite is known as a stone of clarity and inner order. Its neat, parallel fibres are believed to help bring scattered thoughts into line. Many people use it when they feel overwhelmed and want to see a situation more clearly.

It is associated with the crown chakra and with calm focus. People often choose it when they need patience and structure, for example when planning, studying or solving a difficult problem. It is also linked with emotional balance and a quiet, steady mind.
