Wagnerite

Physical Information

Wagnerite is a rare magnesium phosphate mineral that also contains fluorine. It was first described in Austria. It usually forms in high-temperature metamorphic rocks and in some pegmatites. Its colour is often yellow, honey, brown or greenish, with a glassy to resin-like shine.

Clear, colourful pieces are hard to find, so wagnerite is mainly a collector's stone. It is of medium hardness (about 5–5.5 on the Mohs scale), so it can be scratched by harder crystals. Store it on its own and clean it with a soft, dry cloth.
