Physical Information
Vera Cruz Amethyst is a special kind of amethyst, the purple variety of quartz. It comes from the state of Veracruz in Mexico. Unlike the dark, chunky amethyst from geodes, it grows as long, slender points with a light lavender colour. The crystals are often very clear, and some are double-terminated, with a point at each end.
The crystals form in cracks and cavities in volcanic rock, where they grow slowly from hot, mineral-rich water. Fine specimens are hard to find and are loved by collectors. Like all amethyst, the colour can fade in strong sunlight, so keep it out of bright windows.
