Unakite
Physical Information
Unakite is a colourful rock made mainly of green epidote, pink feldspar and some clear or milky quartz. It is a type of altered granite. When hot, mineral-rich fluids passed through the original granite, part of it changed into green epidote. The result is a soft, mottled mix of olive green and salmon pink.
The stone takes its name from the Unaka Mountains in the USA, where it was first found. It is also found in other countries, including South Africa and China. Unakite is fairly hard and easy to care for, so it is often used for tumbled stones, beads, eggs and carvings.
Metaphysical Properties
Unakite is known as a stone of balance. The green and pink together are believed to bring the head and the heart into harmony. Many people use it when they want to let go of old habits, heal emotionally and grow in a gentle, steady way.
