Tourmaline quartz

Physical Information

Tourmaline Quartz, also called tourmalinated quartz, is clear or milky quartz with natural black needles of tourmaline (schorl) inside. The dark needles can be fine and scattered or thick and dense, so every piece looks different. The contrast of light and dark is part of its charm.

It forms when quartz grows around tourmaline crystals that are already there. Sources include Brazil and Madagascar. As a quartz, it has a hardness of about 7 and is easy to care for. Clean it with a soft, damp cloth.
