Tiger Eye
Physical Information
Tiger’s Eye is a golden to brown variety of quartz. Its silky, moving shine is called chatoyancy, or the “cat’s eye” effect. It comes from fine parallel fibres inside the stone, which formed when quartz grew with and replaced fibrous minerals. When you turn a polished piece, bands of light glide across the surface.
The main source is South Africa, with other deposits in Australia, India and Namibia. The blue-grey form is called hawk’s eye. Red tiger’s eye is usually golden tiger’s eye that has been gently heated. With a hardness of about 7, it is durable and easy to care for.
Metaphysical Properties
Tiger’s Eye is known as a stone of courage. It is believed to bring confidence, willpower and clear thinking, and to offer protection in stressful moments. Many people use it when they need to make decisions, stay motivated or feel strong and grounded.
It is associated with the root chakra and the solar plexus chakra, linking grounding with personal power. People like to carry it as a pocket stone or wear it as a bracelet during exams, interviews or new challenges.
