Tektite

Physical Information

Tektites are natural glass formed by large meteorite impacts. When a meteorite hits the Earth, the enormous heat melts the rock and soil at the impact site. Drops of molten material are thrown high into the air, cool very quickly and fall back to the ground as glass. Tektites are made from Earth rock, not from the meteorite itself.

Tektites are found in areas called strewn fields. Well-known types include black indochinites from Southeast Asia, australites from Australia and green moldavite from the Czech Republic. Most tektites are black or dark brown, with a glassy shine and a pitted, grooved or bubbly surface. They can look like drops, buttons, discs or irregular pieces. Like all glass, tektite can chip, so handle it gently.

Metaphysical Properties

Tektite is known as a stone of transformation. Because it was born from a meeting of Earth and space, it is believed to support spiritual growth, expand awareness and help people break old patterns. Many people use it in meditation and dream work.

Tektite is associated with the third eye chakra and the crown chakra for intuition, and with the root chakra for grounding. This balance makes it a popular stone for staying calm and centred during times of big change. Many people carry a small piece as a reminder that growth can come from unexpected events.
