Sodalite
Physical Information
Sodalite is a deep royal-blue mineral. It often has white veins of calcite, and some pieces show grey or small orange areas. It is usually opaque, with a smooth, slightly waxy shine when polished. Every piece has its own pattern, so no two stones look the same.
Sodalite forms in igneous rocks. Well-known sources include Canada, Brazil, Namibia and Russia. It has a hardness of about 5.5–6, so it is fine for tumbled stones and carvings, but it scratches more easily than quartz. Clean it with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth.
Metaphysical Properties
Sodalite is known as a stone of logic and truth. It is believed to calm the mind, bring order to busy thoughts and support honest, clear communication. Many people use it while studying, working or before an important conversation.
It is associated with the throat chakra and the third eye chakra, linking clear speech with intuition. People like to keep it on the desk, carry it in a pocket or hold it during meditation when they want to feel calm, focused and more confident in expressing themselves.
