Skolecite

Physical Information

Skolecite is a member of the zeolite family, a group of minerals made of calcium, aluminium, silicon and water. It grows as thin, needle-like white or colourless crystals, often in bright sprays or fan shapes. These crystals form inside gas bubbles in volcanic basalt, where mineral-rich water slowly fills the empty spaces. Its name comes from the Greek word for worm, because the crystals curl when heated.

The finest specimens come from the basalt of India, and it is also found in Iceland and other volcanic regions. Skolecite has a hardness of about 5 to 5.5, but the fine needles break easily. Dust clusters gently with a soft brush and handle them with care.

Metaphysical Properties

Skolecite is known as a stone of inner peace. It is believed to bring a quiet, light and uplifting energy. Many people use it when they feel tired or unsettled and want to find calm focus again. It is also said to support clear thinking and a gentle sense of renewal.

It is associated with the third eye and crown chakras, which are linked to intuition and spiritual connection. Many people keep a skolecite cluster in a bedroom or meditation space, or place it on a desk as a calm reminder during busy days. Collectors also love it for its delicate crystal sprays.
