Sakura Agate
Physical Information
Sakura agate, also called cherry blossom agate, is a variety of chalcedony, a fine-grained form of quartz. It is loved for its small round patterns that look like blossoms floating in the stone. These "flowers" are clusters of tiny mineral fibres in pink, white and cream. Its colours range from soft pink and peach to milky white, often with darker or clearer areas in between.
Sakura agate comes from Madagascar, where it is found together with its close relative, flower agate. It forms in cavities in rock, where silica-rich water slowly hardens into chalcedony. With a hardness of 6.5–7 on the Mohs scale, it is durable and suitable for jewellery, spheres, towers and palm stones. A soft cloth and mild soapy water are enough to clean it.
Metaphysical Properties
Like the Japanese cherry blossom, sakura agate is known as a stone of new beginnings. It is believed to encourage hope, growth and the courage to follow your dreams. Many people use it to feel more confident, to express themselves more freely and to let go of feelings that hold them back.
With its soft pink tones, sakura agate is associated with the heart chakra. It is linked to self-love, joy and gentle emotional renewal. Many people keep it close in spring, at the start of a new chapter, or whenever they need a quiet reminder that good things take time to bloom.
