Rubellite Lepidolite
Physical Information
Rubellite lepidolite is a natural combination of two minerals. The base is lepidolite, a lilac to purple mica that contains lithium and has a soft, sparkling shimmer. Inside it grow pink to reddish crystals and streaks of rubellite, the pink-red variety of tourmaline. The contrast of lavender and pink makes this stone especially beautiful.
Both minerals form together in granite pegmatites, where fluids rich in lithium and boron slowly crystallise. This material is found in places such as Brazil and Madagascar. Lepidolite is soft and made of thin layers, so the stone can scratch or flake. Keep it away from water and harsh cleaners, and dust it with a soft, dry cloth.
