Red Jasper
Physical Information
Red Jasper is an opaque form of microcrystalline quartz. Jasper often contains other minerals, and its brick-red to deep red colour comes from iron oxides such as hematite. Some pieces are an even red, while others show darker spots, bands or light veins. It forms when fine silica and mineral particles harden together over a long time.
Red jasper is found in many parts of the world, including India, Brazil and South Africa. It is hard and durable, about 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale, so it is ideal for everyday jewellery and tumbled stones. It has been carved into amulets, seals and beads since ancient times.
Metaphysical Properties
Red Jasper is known as a stone of endurance. It is believed to bring steady energy, strength and determination. Many people use it when they need to keep going through a long project or a demanding time, or when they want to feel more grounded and practical.
It is associated with the root chakra, which is linked to stability and a sense of safety. Many people carry a tumbled stone in a pocket, wear it as a bracelet, or hold it during meditation to feel calm and centred. It is also a popular stone for protection and for bringing warmth into the home.
