Prehnite
Physical Information
Prehnite is a calcium aluminium silicate with a gentle, translucent green to yellow-green colour and a soft, glassy lustre. It often contains dark green to black needles of Epidote, which make a beautiful natural contrast.
It was named after Hendrik von Prehn, a Dutch colonel who brought it from South Africa in the 18th century – it is often said to be one of the first minerals ever named after a person. Today the main sources are Australia, Mali and South Africa. With a hardness of 6–6.5 it is durable enough for towers, spheres and jewellery.
Metaphysical Properties
Prehnite is known as the stone that “heals the healer”. It is believed to bring calm and peace, reduce worry and help you trust your inner guidance. It is popular with therapists, carers and anyone who gives a lot of energy to others.
Prehnite is associated with the heart and solar plexus chakras. When combined with Epidote, it is said to also support personal growth and positive energy.
