Phosphosiderite
Physical Information
Phosphosiderite is a hydrated iron phosphate mineral. It is best known for its soft pink, lilac and purple colours. Polished pieces often show yellow, brown or cream veins and patches from other minerals, which give each stone its own pattern. It forms when iron-rich minerals slowly change near the surface of the earth.
It is a fairly rare stone, and most polished material on the market comes from Chile. Phosphosiderite is quite soft, about 3.5 to 4 on the Mohs scale, so it is best used for tumbled stones, pendants and decorative pieces. Clean it with a soft, dry cloth and keep it away from harder stones.
Metaphysical Properties
Phosphosiderite is known as a stone of calm and gentle change. It is believed to bring emotional comfort, hope and a feeling of trust in the future. Many people use it during times of change, when they want to let go of worry and move forward with an open heart.
It is associated with the heart chakra and often also with the third eye chakra, which are linked to love and intuition. Many people keep it close during meditation or before sleep, for a calm and dreamy evening. It is also a lovely stone for a quiet corner or a personal altar.
