Opalite

Physical Information

Opalite is a man-made glass, not a natural stone. It is made to look milky and translucent, with a soft blue glow against a dark background and a warm golden or peach tone when light shines through it. It is sometimes sold as “opal moonstone” or “sea opal”, but it is neither opal nor moonstone.

Because it is glass, opalite is very smooth and even, sometimes with tiny air bubbles inside. It has a hardness of about 5.5 and can chip if dropped. Clean it with a soft, damp cloth. It is a lovely material in its own right, as long as it is sold honestly as glass.

Metaphysical Properties

Even though it is man-made, opalite is widely used in crystal practice. It is known as a stone of transition and is believed to bring calm, gentle emotional balance and a sense of peace during times of change. Many people use it to support clear and kind communication.

It is associated with the third eye chakra and the crown chakra. People like to use opalite in meditation, keep it by the bed or give it as a gift when they want a soft, soothing and hopeful energy around them.
