Moss Agate
Physical Information
Moss Agate is a form of chalcedony, a fine-grained variety of quartz. It is clear, white or milky, with green inclusions that look like moss, grass or small landscapes. These green patterns are made by minerals such as chlorite or hornblende. Despite its name, moss agate usually has no bands, so it is not a true banded agate.
It is found in several countries, with India being one of the main sources. Every piece has its own unique pattern. Moss Agate is hard and durable (about 6.5–7 on the Mohs scale), so it is ideal for jewellery, tumbled stones and carvings. Clean it with water and a soft cloth.
