Mahogany Obsidian
Physical Information
Mahogany Obsidian is a natural volcanic glass that forms when lava cools very quickly, before crystals can grow. It is black with reddish-brown, mahogany-coloured patches and swirls, caused by iron-rich inclusions. The warm brown against the deep black gives each piece its own pattern.
It is found in volcanic areas, mainly in Mexico and the United States. Obsidian has a hardness of about 5–5.5. Like all glass it can chip, and broken edges are very sharp, so handle chipped pieces with care. Clean it with a soft, damp cloth.
Metaphysical Properties
Mahogany Obsidian is known as a stone of strength and grounding. It is believed to offer gentle protection, help release negativity and support confidence in difficult times. It is often described as softer and warmer than black obsidian. Many people use it when they want to feel stable and motivated.
It is associated with the root chakra and the sacral chakra, linking grounding with creativity and passion. People like to carry it as a palm stone or keep it at home when they want to feel steady, courageous and balanced.
