Magnetite
Physical Information
Magnetite is an iron oxide mineral and one of the most important iron ores. It is black to dark grey with a metallic shine, and it often forms small, sharp octahedral crystals, like two pyramids joined at the base. It is the most magnetic natural mineral on Earth, so it will attract a magnet or a paper clip.
Some magnetite is naturally magnetised and acts as a magnet itself. This form is called lodestone, and it was used to make the first compasses. Magnetite is found in many igneous and metamorphic rocks around the world. It has a hardness of 5.5 to 6.5. Keep strongly magnetic pieces away from bank cards and electronic devices.
Metaphysical Properties
Magnetite is known as a stone of attraction and balance. Because of its magnetism, it is believed to help draw your wishes and goals towards you. Many people use it in manifestation and visualisation practice.
It is associated with the root chakra, and it is valued as a grounding and protective stone. People use it to feel steady and centred when life feels scattered, and to release fear or anger. Some hold a piece during meditation to feel more present and balanced.
