Girasol

Physical Information

Girasol quartz is a milky, translucent quartz with a soft inner glow. When light moves across it, it shows a gentle bluish or pearly shimmer, a little like moonlight. This glow comes from tiny inclusions and structures inside the quartz that scatter the light. It is usually white to very pale grey or blue.

The name “girasol” comes from the Spanish and Italian words for “turn” and “sun”. Please note that the same name is also used for some opals and for man-made glass beads, so it is good to ask what material a piece is. Girasol quartz is hard (7 on the Mohs scale) and easy to care for.

Metaphysical Properties

Girasol is known as a stone of gentle calm. Its soft glow is believed to bring a quiet, dreamy and peaceful energy. Many people use it to relax, to soften strong emotions, and to become more aware of their own feelings.

It is associated with the crown chakra and the third eye chakra. People often keep it by the bed, hold it during evening meditation, or wear it as a pendant when they want to feel calm, open and softly protected.
