Garnet
Physical Information
Garnet is not one mineral but a group of silicate minerals with the same crystal structure. The best-known garnets are deep red, such as almandine and pyrope, but garnets can also be green, orange, yellow, pink and even purple. They often form nice rounded crystals with many faces and have a bright, glassy shine.
Garnets form in metamorphic and some igneous rocks, under high heat and pressure, and they are found all over the world. They are hard (about 6.5–7.5 on the Mohs scale), so they are great for everyday jewellery. Garnet is the birthstone for January. Clean it with lukewarm water and a soft cloth.
Metaphysical Properties
Garnet is known as a stone of passion and commitment. Its warm red colour is believed to bring energy, courage and devotion. Many people use it to feel more motivated, to strengthen love and friendship, and to stay loyal to their goals.
It is associated with the root chakra. People often wear it as a ring or bracelet, give it as a gift of love and loyalty, or carry a small stone when they need strength and a feeling of safety.
