Fluorite
Physical Information
Fluorite is a calcium fluoride mineral. It comes in many colours, including purple, green, blue, yellow and colourless. Rainbow fluorite shows several colours in bands within one piece. Fluorite often grows as neat cubes and can split into octahedrons, and it has a bright, glassy shine.
It forms in hydrothermal veins, where hot, mineral-rich water cools down. Sources include China, Mexico, South Africa, England and the United States. Many pieces glow under ultraviolet light, and the word “fluorescence” comes from fluorite. Fluorite is fairly soft (hardness 4) and can chip, or fade in strong sun, so store it carefully and clean it with a soft, dry cloth.
Metaphysical Properties
Fluorite is known as a stone of focus and mental order. It is believed to clear mental fog, help organise thoughts and support calm decisions. Many people use it while studying or working, when they want clarity and concentration.
It is associated with the third eye chakra and the crown chakra. People like to keep fluorite on the desk, near the computer or by their books. It is also used in meditation when people want to feel balanced, clear-headed and connected to their intuition.
