Falcon Eye

Physical Information

Falcon eye, also called hawk’s eye, is the blue-grey sister of tiger’s eye. It is quartz that contains very fine blue mineral fibres (crocidolite, a variety of riebeckite). These fibres are sealed inside the quartz, so a polished stone is safe to handle. They create a silky shine and a moving band of light, called chatoyancy.

When the same fibres oxidise and turn golden brown, the stone becomes tiger’s eye. Falcon eye comes mainly from South Africa and is often found together with tiger’s eye. It is hard (about 7 on the Mohs scale) and easy to care for.

Metaphysical Properties

Falcon eye is known as a stone of vision and protection. Like a falcon high in the sky, it is believed to help people see the bigger picture and stay calm and clear in stressful moments. Many people use it when they need to make a decision.

It is associated with the third eye chakra and the throat chakra. People often wear it as a bracelet, carry it while travelling, or keep it on their desk to stay focused and protected from negative energy.
