Epidote

Physical Information

Epidote is a calcium aluminium iron silicate mineral. It is best known for its deep green, olive or pistachio colour. Its crystals are often long and prismatic, with fine lines (striations) along their length and a glassy shine. It can also be massive, without visible crystals. Some specimens look almost black until light shines through them.

Epidote forms in metamorphic rocks and in hydrothermal veins. Fine crystals come from several countries, including Austria, Pakistan, Mexico, Norway and the USA. It is fairly hard (about 6–7 on the Mohs scale), but long crystals can break, so handle them gently. It is also a part of other popular stones, such as unakite.

Metaphysical Properties

Epidote is known as a stone of growth. It is believed to amplify whatever energy and intentions you bring to it. For this reason, many people like to work with it while focusing on positive goals and clear wishes.

It is associated with the heart chakra. People often use it when they want to let go of old habits and limiting beliefs, feel more motivated or stay hopeful during times of change. It is a popular stone for personal development, new plans and a fresh, optimistic outlook.
