Dumortierite
Physical Information
Dumortierite is an aluminium borosilicate mineral known for its deep denim-blue to violet-blue colour. It rarely forms clear crystals. Most often it appears as dense masses or as fine blue fibres inside quartz, a material called dumortierite quartz. The colour can be even or slightly speckled.
It forms in metamorphic rocks and in some granite-type rocks, and it is found in several countries, including Brazil and Madagascar. It is hard (about 7 on the Mohs scale), polishes well and is easy to care for. Its blue colour makes it look a little like lapis lazuli or sodalite, and it is sometimes confused with them.
Metaphysical Properties
Dumortierite is known as a stone of patience and order. It is believed to bring a calm, focused mind and to help people stay organised, disciplined and steady. Many people use it when learning something new or working on a long project.
It is associated with the third eye chakra and the throat chakra. People often keep it on the desk, wear it during busy work days, or hold it during meditation to quiet the mind and trust their own inner voice.
