Citrine
Physical Information
Citrine is the yellow to golden-orange variety of quartz. Its colour comes from tiny traces of iron and ranges from pale lemon and honey to deep amber. It is transparent to translucent, with a bright, glassy shine.
Natural citrine is fairly rare and usually pale. Many stones sold as citrine, especially deep orange clusters and points with a white base, are amethyst that has been heat-treated. They are still real quartz, but the colour is not natural. Sources include Brazil, Madagascar and Bolivia. With a hardness of 7, citrine is durable, but long hours in strong sunlight can slowly fade it.
Metaphysical Properties
Citrine is known as the stone of abundance. It is believed to attract success and prosperity, and to bring warmth, joy and optimism. Many people use it to feel more motivated, creative and confident in everyday life.
It is associated with the solar plexus chakra, the centre of personal power and self-confidence. Many people keep citrine in the wealth corner of their home, in the cash register or on their desk. In crystal traditions it is also said that citrine does not hold on to negative energy, so it is thought to need little cleansing.
