Chrysocolla

Physical Information

Chrysocolla is a copper silicate mineral with bright blue, turquoise and green colours. The copper gives it these ocean-like shades. It rarely forms real crystals. Instead, it appears as smooth crusts, rounded bubbly shapes or fillings in rock, often mixed with malachite, azurite or quartz.

It forms near the surface of copper deposits, where copper minerals slowly change through contact with water and air. Pure chrysocolla is soft (about 2–4 on the Mohs scale) and can be fragile, so many polished pieces are mixed with harder quartz or stabilised. Keep it away from water and clean it with a soft, dry cloth.

Metaphysical Properties

Chrysocolla is known as a stone of gentle expression. It is believed to help people share their feelings calmly and to bring a peaceful, feminine energy. Many people use it when they want to speak from the heart or feel more relaxed and creative.

It is associated with the throat chakra and the heart chakra. People often wear it as a pendant close to the throat, or keep it nearby while writing, singing, teaching or talking with loved ones.
