Chalcedony Quartz

Physical Information

Chalcedony is a form of quartz made of crystals so tiny that you cannot see them, even with a normal magnifying glass. This gives it a smooth, waxy look and a soft glow when light passes through. It can be white, grey, soft blue, pink or other colours. The name “chalcedony” is also used as a family name: agate, carnelian and onyx all belong to it.

It forms at low temperatures, when silica-rich water fills cracks and cavities in rock and slowly hardens. Chalcedony is found in many places around the world. It is hard (about 6.5–7 on the Mohs scale) and easy to care for.

Metaphysical Properties

Chalcedony is known as a stone of harmony and kindness. It is believed to bring a gentle, nurturing energy that softens tension between people. Many people use it to feel calmer, more balanced and more open when they talk with others.

Blue chalcedony is especially associated with the throat chakra. People often wear it as jewellery, give it as a gift of friendship, or keep a small stone nearby during stressful days to remember to stay patient and kind.
