Celestine
Physical Information
Celestine, also called celestite, is a strontium sulphate mineral. It is best known for its soft sky-blue colour, but it can also be white, grey or colourless. Its name comes from the Latin word “caelestis”, meaning “heavenly”. It forms clear, glassy crystals, often inside geodes and cavities in sedimentary rocks such as limestone.
Beautiful blue celestine geodes come from Madagascar. Celestine is soft (about 3–3.5 on the Mohs scale) and breaks easily. Keep it out of water and out of strong sunlight, which can fade the blue colour. Dust it gently with a soft brush.
Metaphysical Properties
Celestine is known as a stone of heavenly calm. Its gentle blue colour is believed to bring peace, softness and a sense of connection to something higher. Many people use it to relax, to quiet a busy mind, or to feel close to their spiritual guides.
It is associated with the throat chakra and the crown chakra. A celestine cluster is often placed in a bedroom, reading corner or meditation space to create a calm, dreamy atmosphere.
