Blue Quartz
Physical Information
Blue quartz is a name used for quartz that looks blue. Natural blue quartz is usually opaque or cloudy. Its soft blue or grey-blue colour comes from tiny inclusions of other minerals, such as dumortierite or rutile, which scatter light inside the stone. The colour is gentle and often uneven, not bright.
Please note: many very bright, glassy or evenly coloured stones sold as “blue quartz” are actually glass or dyed quartz. This does not make them bad, but it is good to know what you are buying. Natural blue quartz is hard (7 on the Mohs scale) and easy to care for.
Metaphysical Properties
Blue quartz is known as a stone of calm and clarity. It is believed to bring a quiet, peaceful mood and to help thoughts feel more ordered. Many people use it when they feel restless or when they want to organise their ideas before speaking or writing.
It is associated with the throat chakra. People often keep it on a work desk, carry a tumbled stone in a pocket, or hold it during short meditation to slow down and think clearly.
