Blue Chalcedony
Physical Information
Blue Chalcedony is a form of chalcedony, a microcrystalline quartz made of crystals too small to see. It is soft pale blue to grey-blue and translucent, with a gentle, waxy glow. Some pieces show faint bands or a slightly cloudy look.
It forms in cavities of volcanic rock, where silica-rich water slowly leaves layer after layer. Sources include Namibia, Turkey, Brazil, India and the United States. It has a hardness of about 6.5–7 and is easy to care for. Some very bright, evenly blue chalcedony on the market is dyed; the natural colour is usually soft and muted.
Metaphysical Properties
Blue Chalcedony is known as a stone of calm communication. It is believed to soothe the mind, ease tension and help people speak kindly and listen well. Many people use it before difficult conversations or when they simply want to feel more at peace.
It is associated with the throat chakra. People like to wear it as jewellery, keep it by the bed or hold it in quiet moments when they want a sense of serenity and gentle confidence in expressing their thoughts and feelings.
