Blue Aventurine
Physical Information
Blue Aventurine is a blue variety of aventurine, a quartzite rock made mostly of quartz grains. Its colour comes from tiny inclusions of a blue mineral called dumortierite. Blue aventurine is usually dark blue to grey-blue, and some pieces show a soft glitter when light moves across the surface. This sparkle is called aventurescence.
Blue aventurine is hard and durable, about 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale, so it is well suited for beads, tumbled stones and carvings. Please note that the dark blue glass with many bright copper-coloured sparkles, often called "blue goldstone" or "blue sandstone", is man-made glass and not blue aventurine.
Metaphysical Properties
Blue Aventurine is known as a stone of inner calm and self-discipline. It is believed to bring a quiet, steady strength and to help people stay focused on their goals. Many people use it when they want to feel calmer, think more clearly or make better choices for themselves.
It is associated with the throat chakra and the third eye chakra, which are linked to communication and intuition. Many people carry a tumbled stone in a pocket, wear blue aventurine as a bracelet, or hold it during meditation. It is also a popular stone for study and quiet evening routines.
