Beta Quartz
Physical Information
Beta Quartz is quartz that grew at very high temperatures, above about 573 °C, usually inside hot volcanic rock. At these temperatures quartz takes a different crystal form called beta quartz. It grows as short, double-pointed crystals that look like two small pyramids joined at the base, often with almost no long middle part. Most pieces are grey, smoky, white or slightly milky.
When the rock cooled, the inner structure changed back to ordinary quartz, but the special outer shape stayed. So these crystals keep a record of the heat in which they formed. Beta quartz crystals are usually small and are loved by collectors. They have a hardness of about 7 on the Mohs scale and are easy to care for.
Metaphysical Properties
Beta Quartz is known as a stone of clarity. Like other quartz, it is believed to bring focus, clear thinking and a calm, bright energy. Its double-pointed shape is often linked to balance and to energy that flows in two directions. Many people use it when they want to make a decision or set a clear intention.
It is associated with the crown chakra and the third eye chakra, which are linked to spiritual connection and insight. Many people hold a beta quartz crystal during meditation, keep one on their desk to help them stay focused, or place it in a small crystal grid.
