Azurite - Malachite
Physical Information
Azurite-Malachite is a natural mix of two copper carbonate minerals. Azurite gives the deep blue colour, and malachite gives the bright green bands and patches. The two minerals form together in the upper, weathered parts of copper deposits. Over time, azurite can slowly change into malachite, so many pieces show both minerals side by side.
It is found in copper mining regions, for example in Arizona in the United States and in parts of Africa. Azurite-Malachite is soft, about 3.5 to 4 on the Mohs scale. Keep it away from water, heat and chemicals, and do not use it to make crystal water, because it contains copper. Clean it with a soft, dry cloth.
Metaphysical Properties
Azurite-Malachite is known as a stone of insight and transformation. It is believed to join the clear, intuitive energy of azurite with the protective, heart-centred energy of malachite. Many people use it when they want to understand their feelings better, let go of old patterns and grow in a new direction.
It is associated with the third eye chakra and the heart chakra, which are linked to intuition and love. Many people hold it during meditation, keep it in a quiet space, or wear it as jewellery as a reminder of personal growth.
