Azurite
Physical Information
Azurite is a copper carbonate mineral with an intense, deep blue colour. It often grows together with green Malachite – over time, azurite can slowly change into malachite, which is why the two are so often found side by side.
For centuries azurite was ground into a precious blue pigment used by painters in Europe and Asia. Important sources include Morocco, Mexico, China, Namibia and the USA. Azurite is a soft stone (3.5–4 on the Mohs scale), so keep it dry, away from strong heat and long hours of direct sunlight.
Metaphysical Properties
Azurite is known as the “Stone of Heaven”. It is believed to open the mind to new ideas, strengthen intuition and help you see situations more clearly. Many people use it for study, meditation and self-reflection.
It is associated with the third-eye and throat chakras. When combined with Malachite, it is said to bring together insight and emotional healing.
