Aventurine
Physical Information
Aventurine is a form of quartz (usually a quartzite rock) that sparkles softly when it catches the light. This shimmer is called aventurescence and comes from tiny flakes of mica, most often green fuchsite. Green is the best-known colour, but aventurine also comes in blue, red, peach and brown.
Major sources include India, Brazil and Russia. It has a hardness of about 6.5–7 and is easy to care for. Please note that the glittery man-made glass called “goldstone” is sometimes sold as aventurine, but it is not a natural stone. Real aventurine has a softer, more uneven shimmer.
Metaphysical Properties
Aventurine is often called the stone of opportunity. It is believed to attract luck and prosperity, and to encourage confidence and a positive outlook. Many people carry it to job interviews, exams or the start of something new.
It is associated with the heart chakra. Its calm green energy is linked to emotional balance, kindness and inner harmony. People like to keep it in a pocket or wallet, or place it at home when they want to feel optimistic and open to new chances.
