Angelite
Physical Information
Angelite is the trade name for a pale blue form of anhydrite, a calcium sulfate mineral. Its soft sky-blue to lilac-blue colour and gentle, often white-flecked look make it one of the calmest-looking stones. It forms in sedimentary layers where ancient seawater evaporated and left minerals behind.
Most angelite on the market comes from Peru. It is soft, about 3.5 on the Mohs scale, and sensitive to water.
Metaphysical Properties
Angelite is known as a stone of peace and of heavenly connection, as its name suggests. It is believed to bring calm, gentle awareness and a sense of being supported. Many people use it during prayer or meditation, or when they want to feel more at ease with themselves and others.
It is associated with the throat chakra, which is linked to honest and kind communication. Many people keep angelite on a bedside table or in a quiet corner of the home. It is also a popular gift for someone going through a sensitive time, as a symbol of care and comfort.
Care Tips
Do not soak angelite or leave it in water. Anhydrite can slowly take up water and change into gypsum, which can make the surface dull or cracked. Clean it with a soft, dry cloth, keep it away from salt, and store it apart from harder stones to avoid scratches.
