Amazonite

Physical Information

Amazonite is a green to blue-green variety of microcline, a potassium feldspar. Its colour is linked to tiny traces of lead in the crystal. Many pieces show fine white stripes or a soft, speckled pattern, and some have a gentle shimmer. It forms in granite and pegmatite rocks, where large crystals grow slowly as magma cools.

The stone is named after the Amazon River, but most amazonite today comes from Brazil, Russia, Madagascar and the United States. It has a hardness of about 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale, but it can split along flat planes, so protect it from hard knocks and sudden temperature changes.

Metaphysical Properties

Amazonite is known as a stone of harmony and of truth. It is believed to calm strong emotions and to help people find balance between heart and mind. Many people use it when they want to speak more openly, set clear boundaries or simply feel more relaxed in daily life.

It is associated with the heart chakra and the throat chakra, which are linked to love and honest communication. Many people wear amazonite as jewellery, keep it on a work desk, or hold it during meditation while repeating a simple, positive affirmation. Its fresh colour also makes it a popular stone for new beginnings.
