Moonstone is a variety of feldspar, typically composed of orthoclase and albite. Its signature glow, called adularescence, is caused by light scattering between thin internal layers of these minerals. Moonstone has been used in jewelry for thousands of years and was especially popular during the Art Nouveau period in the early 20th century.
