Yooperlite
Yooperlite is known for its gray to light-colored appearance that reveals a surprising hidden feature under UV light. In normal lighting it looks subtle and stone-like, but under ultraviolet light it glows with bright orange and yellow patterns, making it truly unique and eye-catching.
Because of this dramatic contrast, Yooperlite is popular for polished stones, display pieces, carvings, and collector specimens. Each piece has its own glow pattern, revealed only under the right light conditions.
✨ Fact & Fun Fact:
Yooperlite is a syenite rock containing fluorescent sodalite. It was discovered in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and along the shores of Lake Superior. The name “Yooperlite” comes from “Yooper,” a nickname for people from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The glowing effect occurs because sodalite fluoresces under UV light, a feature identified publicly in 2017.
