Tourmaline is a complex boron silicate mineral that can contain elements such as iron, magnesium, lithium, and chromium, which create its many colors. It is one of the few gemstones that can be naturally multicolored within a single crystal. Tourmaline crystals also show pyroelectric and piezoelectric properties, meaning they can generate an electric charge when heated or pressured.
