Moldavite is a tektite, a natural glass formed about 15 million years ago when a large meteorite impacted the Earth in what is now the Czech Republic. The intense heat and pressure melted surrounding rock, ejecting material that cooled rapidly in the air. Moldavite is found almost exclusively in the Bohemia and Moravia regions. It is one of the rarest tektites in the world.
