✨ Fact & Fun Fact:
Iolite is the gem-quality variety of the mineral cordierite, a magnesium iron aluminum silicate. It is strongly pleochroic, meaning it can appear blue, violet, gray, or yellowish depending on viewing angle. Historically, Viking sailors are believed to have used thin pieces of iolite as a natural polarizing filter to locate the sun on cloudy days, earning it the nickname “Viking’s Compass.”
