Nuummite

Physical Information

Nuummite is a rare metamorphic rock made mainly of two amphibole minerals, anthophyllite and gedrite. It is black to very dark brown. When it is polished and turned in the light, it shows golden, coppery, blue or green flashes along its fibres. This shimmering effect is called schiller.

Nuummite is named after the area around Nuuk, the capital of Greenland, where it was first described. It is very old and is often said to be around 3 billion years old. It has a hardness of about 5.5 to 6. Protect it from knocks and clean it with a soft, dry cloth.

Metaphysical Properties

Nuummite is often called the Sorcerer's Stone and is known as a stone of protection. It is believed to form a shield against negative energy and to help you feel strong, grounded and secure. Many people use it for self-reflection and inner exploration.

It is associated with the root chakra. People use it during times of change to let go of old patterns, to build personal power and confidence, and to support intuition in meditation. Because of its great age, many feel it carries a deep, calm earth energy.
